Flashback Friday – Opening Night at the Gander Airport, 2019

Welcome to this week’s Flashback Friday!

Winterset in Summer Literary Festival has, from its very beginning, aimed to provide unforgettable and moving experiences for our guests, authors, and artists. From witty conversations to engaging workshops and live performances, no one year of the festival is like the others!

In this spirit, we would like to revisit our memorable opening event on August 8, 2019, held in the celebrated International Departure Lounge of Gander Airport. In perfect view of Kenneth Lochhead’s stunning mural, “Flight and Its Allegories”, guests were treated to a live reading by writer Jane Urquhart from her captivating book, The Night Stages, and were given an art history lesson by Mireille Eagan, Art Gallery Curator at the Rooms, on the mural’s significance.

What has been a memorable event for you at Winterset in Summer? As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we hope to create many new memories, even as we pay homage to the many wonderful people, workshops, and events that brought us here. Join us in Eastport this August to see where our festival goes next!

In this photo, you can see Jane Urquhart as she speaks to the audience before the mural, “Flight and Its Allegories”, in the Gander Airport.

Above is a photo of our own Pat Parsons, former chair and longtime supporter of the festival, who brought her passion for Winterset in Summer in her address at the Gander Airport’s International Departure Lounge.
