Welcome to our first Flashback Friday!
Every Friday leading up to the Winterset in Summer Literary Festival in August, we will post content that calls back to past festivals to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Check out past guests and authors, and revisit memories of the many activities and creative voices that have helped make our festival what it is today!
For our first post in this series, let’s look back on a literary giant who we had the great fortune to – not only once, but twice! – have attend the Winterset in Summer Literary Festival: Margaret Atwood.
In a conversation with Michael Enright, Margaret Atwood shared her process for putting together a book of poetry. “You get them [the poems] out and work on them,” she said, “and then you pick the ones that you think should be in the book. And then you lay them out on the floor like a deck of cards, and you start arranging them.”
What is your technique when it comes to writing or putting together a collection of your works? Over the 25 years of our festival, we have heard many different techniques and processes that go into making the books we love to read; come to Eastport this August to get inspired as a writer, reader, or creative!
