This Place
The Winterset in Summer Literary Festival respectfully acknowledges the territory of the Eastport Peninsula on which we gather as the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk. We acknowledge with respect the diverse histories and cultures of the Beothuk, Mi’kmaq, Innu, and Inuit of this province.

Discover Eastport

Eastport is a scenic town on the Bonavista Peninsula of Newfoundland and Labrador. The area is made up of two white sand beaches, connected by a boardwalk and natural walking trails. When you join us for Winterset in Summer, you can enjoy quiet time in the gazebos or gather in cook shelters before a swim in the ocean.

There are many motels, cabins, inns, and B&Bs within a short drive of the main festival venue at the Beaches Arts and Heritage Centre.

Come discover why Sandra Gwyn, like so many, spent every summer in Eastport – and why this is the perfect home for the annual Winterset in Summer Festival

The Beaches Arts and Heritage Centre

Each year the Winterset In Summer Festival is hosted at The Beaches Arts and Heritage Centre.

The year-round cultural and performing arts centre is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the culture and heritage of the Eastport Peninsula region through history, music, drama, and visual arts.

This state-of-the-art facility was opened in June 2001 under the stewardship of the Eastport Peninsula Heritage Society. The historic building originally served as a school for many years. When the school closed in 1968, the property evolved as the key venue for cultural arts and entertainment shows, from summer drama festivals to a privately operated movie theatre.
