Des Walsh – poet/writer, screenwriter, actor and musician, winner of a Gemini for The Boys of St. Vincent

Summary: Lyrical Prelude: Duane and Patrick will discuss their musical styles with Jamie Fizpatrick.
Linden MacIntyre and Des Walsh will discuss the challenges of writing about difficult topics, and why they are attracted to these in the first place, with host Anne Budgell.

8:00 p.m. - "2010 Lost Voices"Readers/Writers
Gerry Squires - Artist and Sculptor
Annamarie Beckel -- author of All Gone Widdun, the story of William Cormack and Shawnadithit.
Kevin Major – author of Blood Red Ochre, a novel about the extinction of the Beothuks.
Bernice Morgan – author of Cloud of Bone, a novel about Shawnadithit.

Marie Wadden – 2008 Winterset finalist and CBC Radio journalist

Summary: Preface: Artist Gerry Squires will discuss Shawnadithit and the Spirit of the Beothuk

The panelists will discuss their various approaches to representing an important part of Newfoundland and Labrador history, and how each has attempted to capture the spirit of the Beothuk in prose.

Summary: Local Artists will set up their easels in Salvage and Gerry Squires will provide an interpretative discussion of the works and styles of the artists. Winterset in Summer attendees are invited to join this complimentary walking tour. No ticket required.

Chad Pelley – author of the novel “Away From Everywhere”
Jeff Rose-Martland –author of the novel “Game Misconduct”. This novel evolved from a manuscript that won the 2005 Percy Janes Award.

Jamie Fitzpatrick and Dr. Noreen Golfman

Summary: Lyrical Prelude: Duane and Patrick will discuss their musical styles with Jamie Fitzpatrick.

Dr. Golfman will introduce two new writers who will read from their work and participate in a discussion on how to get published, respond to the critics and market their books.

8:00 p.m. - "2010 Winterset Voices"Readers/Writers
Michael Crummey – author of the novel “Galore.” For “Galore,” Crummey is the winner of the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best Book (Canada & Caribbean) and a finalist for the 2010 Governor General's Literary Awards; the Atlantic Independent Booksellers’ Choice Award; the Thomas Head Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award; and the Commonwealth Writers Prize best book award.
Jessica Grant – author of the novel “Come, Thou Tortoise.” For her debut novel, Grant was a 2010 finalist for the Amazon.ca/Books in Canada First Novel Award.
Lisa Moore – author of the novel “February.” For “February,” Moore was also a finalist for the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best Book (Canada & Caribbean);

Summary: This year’s finalists will read from their 2009 works, and Michael Enright will lead the discussion on various topics related to each of the novels.

10:00 p.m. - "2010 Festival Reception at Holy Cross Church Hall"

Summary: Immediately following Winterset Voices, the Festival Committee is pleased to invite all Winterset in Summer event audiences to attend a reception where they will have an opportunity to meet this year's writers, artists, musicians and panel hosts.

15

12:00 p.m. - "2010 Natural Voices"Readers/Writers
Graeme Gibson, author of “The Bedside Book of the Beasts: A Wildlife Miscellany”

Carol Off – author and host of CBC Radio’s “As it Happens”

Summary: Graeme Gibson and Carol Off will discuss his book and Graeme will present a lively slideshow of his material.

2:30 p.m. - "2010 Iconic Voices"Readers/Writers
Margaret Atwood – author of, most recently, The Year of the Flood.
Host
Michael Enright -- host of CBC Radio’s “Sunday Edition”

Summary: Our iconic host will lead a one-on-one discussion with Canada’s literary icon. This is a rare opportunity to see and hear two of Canada’s leading thinkers in conversation about practically everything.

5:30 p.m. - "2010 Sunday Supper"

Summary: Our very popular Sunday Supper will close this year's Festival. Tickets will be available for sale only at the Festival and can be purchased at the Book Sales Desk in the Annex.
