Marie Wadden is a finalist for the 2008 Winterset Award. Her research for Where the Pavement Ends was made possible by one of the country's most prestigious journalistic awards—the Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy. Wadden's first book, Nitassinan: The Innu Struggle to Reclaim Their Homeland, won the Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-Fiction in 1991. Wadden has also won journalism prizes in both Canada and the United States. She is the network producer for CBC Radio in Newfoundland and Labrador and lives in St. John's.
